Public Buildings Millage (4.93 Mills)
From courthouses to senior centers, recreation buildings, and more, our public buildings are vital to parish life.
This millage funds their maintenance and operation. Without it, we’d face building closures and service consolidation. The millage renewal ensures our community spaces remain open and functional for all residents.
The parish currently owns and operates 32 buildings. This includes the Parish Administration Building, commonly referred to as the Convent Courthouse, which also houses the Sheriff’s Office, Assessor’s Office, Registrar of Voters, and Clerk of Court’s Office. The Vacherie Annex provides easy access to essential services on the West Bank, and includes branches of the Sheriff’s Office, Assessor’s Office, Registrar of Voters. Other great examples are the Criminal Court Builds, Jails, and St. James Parish Recreation Center. The Vacherie Senior Center is under construction and will open later this year.
Public building maintenance includes a wide variety of services. An integral addition was installing generators at key locations throughout the parish. To date, HVAC chillers have been installed at the Convent Administration Building, West Bank Reception Hall, St. James Parish Recreation Center. This allows services to continue during a power outage. These generators are critical during hurricane season, allowing parish functions to continue during extended power outages and ensure shelters can function effectively.
