Parish Continues to Monitor Tropical Depression Cindy - Thursday, June 22, 2017
A flash flood watch remains in effect until 7 p.m.Heavy rainfall could occur in rain bands rotating around Tropical Depression Cindy as it moves further inland. Rainfall of one to three inches could occur in these rain bands if they stall over the same area.

Due to high water levels on the Diversion Canal and Amite River, Blind River is closed to recreational boat traffic until further notice. Blind River remains below flood stage and is not expected to cause any backwater flooding issues at this time. Officials continue to monitor water levels throughout the parish.

Sandbagging Locations
If necessary, sand and bags are available for sandbagging at the following locations:
East Bank
Grand Point Fire Station
32122 LA Highway 642
Paulina, LA 70763

West Bank
South Vacherie Fire and Rescue Training Center

North Vacherie Welcome Fire Station

Residents need to bring their own shovel and bag their own sand.

School and Summer Camp Closures
The St. James Parish School System has announced that all summer activities are canceled until further notice.

The District 5 Summer Camp will resume on Monday, June 26.

St. James Parish officials are monitoring weather conditions and have been in contact with the National Weather Service and the Governorís Office of Homeland Security to receive the latest weather forecasts. It is imperative that residents monitor local weather stations for any weather updates.
