 | Under the Department of Operations and with an annual operating budget of approximately $1.7 million, St. James Parish supports seven district parks that offer year-round activities and facilities. Each park has lighted baseball/softball fields, walking tracks, basketball courts, and small children playground equipment. Some parks also offer tennis courts, sand volley ball courts, and a host of other recreational activities. All parks can be rented for a small fee for private gatherings. For more information, call the Parish Fitness Center at (225) 869-1121. The Parish recreation is administered by Mr. Dennis Roussel, who has the responsibility to continue the growth of the recreational programs for all citizens of St. James Parish. Recreation programs include little league baseball, biddy basketball, soccer, sand volley ball, adult flag football, parish fitness center, sponsorship of the NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick program, bantam football, and senior citizens bowling and aerobics. Additionally, the Parish owns and rents the Parish Reception Center available to Parish residents for private parties, weddings, family gatherings, and similar activities. Rental information, including available dates, rates, and conditions can be obtained by calling the Parish Utilities Office, at (225) 562-2412 or 265-3156, Ext. 412.
