GIS

Initially, the Parish functional Geographic Information System (G.I.S.) program started in 1998. The entire Parish was photographed and those photographs were then ortho rectified and digitized to become the footprint of the Parish. All base mapping and related applications utilize the 1998 digital mapping as the geo-spatially reference base and was reflown as recent as 2006 using the Pictometry product. The Parish G.I.S. serves as a data hub warehouse for several Parish departments including Utilities, E-911, Sheriff’s Office, Voter Registration, Assessor’s Office, Operations, Planning and Permitting, Human Resources, Emergency Preparedness, Operations, and the municipalities. Essentially, all of the physical elements, i.e. streets, railroads, hydrology, buildings, and underground infrastructures were digitized into its own specific layer. Additionally, a municipal address data set was developed. Each address is illustrated in the dataset as a point with a corresponding building footprint graphic. The amount of information that can be mapped into a G.I.S. is infinite. The Parish Council and President are committed to annual funding of the G.I.S. as an invaluable asset to all Parish departments and services.
