Educational
Services
Our
alternative school is housed in a five-classroom
building complete with a library, and approved by
the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and
Secondary Education.
Once
admitted, each student is administered a
standardized test and interviewed to determine
their level of educational placement. Test results provide the administrator and teachers with
essential information about the educational needs
and attainment levels of each incarcerated
student. A
plan of individual study is then designed,
utilizing the most appropriate tools and materials
available for their needs.
In order to effectively address the wide
disparity of individual education needs, reliance
is placed upon computer-assisted instructions.
Not only are there computers in the
classroom, but there are also computer classes.
Proper
course work is provided to keep the youth current
with the educational levels of their peers so that
they may return to their schools upon their exit
of our care.
The student’s daily attendance and report
card are accepted as if they spent the
incarcerated period at their regular school. |
