The
St. James Parish Utilities has provided
natural gas and water service to residents
of St. James Parish since 1954.
The St. James Parish’s source of
water is the Mississippi River, which is
pumped into water treatments facilities
located in Vacherie and Convent.
From these 2 plants located on the
east and west bank of the Mississippi River,
treated water is pumped throughout the 150
miles of the water pipeline system.
The water storage capacity exceeds
1.2 million gallons, which includes 6
elevated water towers.
The
Parish Gas System includes approximately 130
miles of gas lines fed by 3 natural gas
substations located within the Parish.
All utility operations are managed by
the Utility Supervisor, Mr. Donald Nash,
from the Utility’s main office located at
2600 LA 20 in Vacherie, La.
Under the direction of the Department
of Operations, the Parish Utility System
strives to provide their customers with the
highest quality of service, leadership,
representation, and support at the lowest
reasonable cost.
The Utility workforce includes 6
water plant operators, 23 service and repair
men, and 5 administrative personnel.
